OUR CHURCH SCHOOL
Mugginton is a proud Church of England (Voluntary Controlled) School. We have a distinct Christian identity based on Love and the model set for us by Jesus Christ. We enjoy half-termly church services and have strong links with our local church and the wider community.
‘Love Your Neighbour as You Love Yourself’ (Matthew 22 38-40)
Mugginton Church of England Primary School believes that all pupils, their families and the wider community should be given every opportunity to fulfil their potential through education. We recognise that everyone is unique and holds equal, intrinsic value. We want to create happiness and good in our school through love. In our environment, everybody can flourish and become their best self – a little mustard seed growing into a great tree where birds can nest (Parable of the Mustard Seed). We aim to produce confident, independent thinkers and learners able to flourish in an ever-changing world.
Within this vision, Christian values underpin all aspects of our School.
Mugginton CE Primary School is a ‘values based community’, committed to the education of the whole child. The Values have been adopted by all of the stakeholders and are based on Christian principles and scripture, aimed at developing children to become successful learners and valued members of society.
We recognise that children are naturally inquisitive - often more so than adults are. It is our duty to nurture this natural curiosity & guide them to look at the world & notice, with awe and wonder, the natural and man-made delights all around us. This is one way we promote Spirituality at Mugginton.
Our Values Are:
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart (Galatians 3:23)
Be brave (Even if I walk through the darkest valley, I won’t be afraid, because you are with me, Psalm 23)
Awe of our natural world (Job 12 ‘ask the animals, and they will teach you; or ask the birds of the air, and they will tell you. Speak to the earth, and it will teach you)
Do Good (Hebrews 13: 16 ‘Do good and share what you have.’ Parable of the Good Samaritan)
Nurture ourselves and others (Parable of the Mustard Seed)
Think Critically (Philippians 4:8 ‘Fix your thoughts on what is true, honourable and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.’)
We believe every person needs a secure base of shared values, love, family and community to guide them through life. Without values we have no anchor, nothing on which to base our decisions and priorities and we recognise the huge role parents and schools have to play in helping us embed shared values.
In school, we teach and promote our values in everything we do and through daily Acts of Worship and the PSHE curriculum. ‘Values’ displays are prominent within the school environment and referred to and discussed daily. Our values are not just for show; they are at the very heart of everyone and everything at Mugginton CE Primary School.
We use the Parables of Jesus found in the first 3 Gospels to deepen understanding of our values and to help children to engage with and reflect on them.
‘A man takes a mustard seed and sows it in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds but when it grows, it is the biggest of all plants. It becomes a tree so that birds come and make their nests in its branches.’
Mark 4: 30
Linked with this, we want our children to be brave. To speak out & act against injustice and become Courageous Advocates for change.
Daily COLLECTIVE WORSHIP at Mugginton
At Mugginton CE Collective Worship (CW) is central to daily school life. Collective Worship is led by staff or the children & is planned by Mr Green & our Collective Worship Lead Pupil, Sophie. Our CW timetable is available here and our Collective Worship policy is available here.
A part of CW is to allow us time to engage with the stories & events recounted in the Bible. A long term plan for exploring the Bible in Collective Worship is available here.
Once every two weeks we do something called Collective Worship Crew (CWC). It is a scheme to boost confidence & make CW more intriguing & enjoyable. Pupils talked with the Collective Worship Lead about how to make Collective Worship even better. They decided that it would be good if they could lead CW more often. This was when the CWC came to life!
ALL SAINTS CHURCH MUGGINTON
We have strong links with our local church. The Christingle Service & Nativity take place in the Church in early December and teams from the church assist with collective worship in school. Programmes such as "Open the book" and "How" are conducted by teams from the parish. There is also an end-of-term church service each half-term starting at 2.45pm. It has become traditional for parents, carers, relatives and friends to join this service and we typically have a congregation of nearly 100. The school also joins with the parish to arrange festivals in the church such as Easter, Mothering Sunday, Harvest Festival and Carols.
SIAMs Church School Inspection
We are a proud Voluntary Controlled Church School and are inspected by the Church Inspection Authority approximately once every 5 years. Our last inspection was in June 2016, it found:
‘Passionate Christian leadership which recognises the potential of all resulting in optimum growth in individuals and the school.’
‘A strong sense of Christian community, which drives all school activity explicitly impacting on relationships, well-being and children’s achievement.’
‘High quality religious education (RE) which promotes enthusiastic learning and spiritual development.’
‘Effective governors who share a commitment to the Christian distinctiveness of the school ensuring that Christian values guide all decision making.’
Our most recent SIAMS Self Evaluation is available at this link.
