Mission Statement

We celebrate our Anglican Foundation and are committed to promoting a love of learning and the very highest academic expectations. We believe every child is entitled to a rich education which promotes self-confidence and a healthy mind and body. We are a school where prayer forms an integral part of the school day and which celebrates and shows respect for our children’s faiths and for the faiths and cultures of other people. We are determined to help our children become the best person they can be.

“Living, Laughing, Learning Together”

The School's responsibilities regarding Safeguarding are extensive and very important.

Here is what the leading Safeguarding Manager had to say about our procedures:  "I am hoping that all schools can reach the levels you have in looking after your pupils, staff and reassuring parents/carers you are working hard to help children feel safe and happy".

References to the current regulations covering safeguarding are provided on the Official Bits page.

Published Data

Usually, we are not allowed to publish data about the school owing to our small group numbers (cohorts), but this year data about our pupil performance will be published. Look out for it on the Ofsted site.

There has been a lot of coverage in the media about schools becoming Academies.  Does this affect Mugginton Primary School?  The Governors have an opinion and a plan.

Headteacher's Welcome

Jane Moore 120 px wide

A warm welcome to all from our thriving 175 year-old church school. We are fortunate to have a talented, experienced teaching staff, supportive parents and wonderful, engaging and hard-working children. In addition we have a governing body with a unique range of skills and experience. By working together, we are determined to continue to succeed in 2016 and beyond.

I am proud and privileged to be the Headteacher of Mugginton Church of England Primary and would urge all to visit our school and experience our warm, supportive and purposeful ethos. We are committed to broadening children’s horizons by offering unique and exciting learning experiences, including Japanese language and cultural activities and the use of ICT applications to increase motivation, optimise teaching and support learning.

We work hard to offer our children as many opportunities as possible to represent our school in sporting activities. Linked with this, we are committed to giving the children lots of opportunities to learn out of doors – in a beautiful village like Mugginton, it would be wrong not to! We recognise the challenges parents face balancing busy working lives with their children’s schooling.

To reflect this, the school offers structured programmes including ‘Early Birds Club’ from 8.00 am to 9.00am and an after-school club every day of the week from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm. In addition we have a thriving parent and toddler group – the Friday Owls.

Our vision is a school environment with a Christian ethos which prepares children for life in 21st-century Britain - somewhere they feel safe and confident, are recognised as individuals and where success is attainable by all.

Things we do well

  • Promote our Christian ethos (See SIAMS report)
  • Provide extensive outside-the-classroom activities - Forest Fridays - Before-and after-school clubs with archery, fencing and tchoukball.
  • Arrange regular school trips: Juniors to London and The Voice, Infants to Tamworth Castle.
  • Design an exciting curriculum - Japanese is the foreign language being taught.

Our School

Situated in a pleasant rural location, yet only fifteen minutes from both Derby and Ashbourne, Mugginton CofE Primary School is the ideal place for children to learn.

Within a family atmosphere, the Headteacher and staff develop strong ties with the pupils in order to nurture, encourage and motivate each individual child to achieve their best.

Wrap Around Care

From Term 2 2017/18 (November 2017) Wrap Around Care will be available at the school from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm. Enquire at the school office for more details.

OfSTED and SIAMS Comments

Report from the most recent church schools’ inspection (June 2016) where the school was graded as outstanding:

“Christian values are securely embedded within the ethos and routines of this community centred church school”.

"Professional insight and enthusiasm ensures that every child, in these mixed age classes, is appropriately challenged to ‘become the best you can be’ and make the most of their God given gifts and talents"

"Behaviour is admirable. School policy is driven by a spirit of Christian forgiveness and reconciliation; children feel safe and confident. There are no exclusions."

Other Ofsted comments include:

Strong leadership inspires everyone, both staff and pupils, to continually strive to improve.

The school makes excellent provision for pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through the subjects they teach and the wide range of special events on offer.

Empathy and understanding are fostered well through celebrating different cultures. This has led to the school gaining the International Schools Award.

Skilled teaching in Reception ensures that children quickly become confident and able to work on their own.

A parent described Mugginton as, "a school which is an extension of the family. This school is at the heart of the community."
